Chin Liposuction 101
Double chin fat removal is a procedure to remove under chin fat and remove jawline fat. Awake double chin liposuction is also the most common way to do it so that the patient does not need to be asleep. The surgery is the equivalent of losing weight but is especially helpful for stubborn under-chin fat.

How Does Chin Lipo Work?
Double chin lipo works using a specialized liposuction cannula. This is a device that utilized a powerful suction and various shaped tips to remove the fat. The procedure begins with a numbing solution that serves to numb the neck, minimize bleeding, and most importantly inflate the fat for easy removal. Once the patient is numb, the procedure involves three pinpoint incisions, one under each earlobe and one under the chin. Fat is manually removed and each of the incisions is closed. The patient is then wrapped and sent home.

Is Chin Lipo Painful?
Doube chin lipo pain is non-existent. While the numbing shot certainly does hurt for the two minutes it takes, the actual procedure is pain-free. Awake chin lipo allows the surgeon to get a better feel of the fat secondary to the patient being able to lift his or her chin high in the air, extend the neck and expose the fat. While you are given pain medication, the majority of patients use that only the first and second day. The pain mainly feels like a soreness.
Chin Lipo Garment

One of the most difficult parts of the chin lipo recovery is the restrictions and garment. You will be required to wear a wrap around your neck. This garment will be tight, itchy, painful, and annoying. It is certainly the hardest part of the procedure; however, it is the difference between good results and the best chin lipo results.
Chin Liposuction Swelling
Swelling the day after chin lipo is perfectly normal. It will subside on its own and actually get worse the first few days after surgery. You can improve swelling by staying upright, using ice, and massage. Bruising is also normal and will improve on it’s own.

Chin Lipo Neck Massage
Massaging after a chin lipo surgery is critical. Patient’s should massage 2-3 times a day beginning around one week after surgery. Massage is difficult when you are still tender but still necessary. The massage SHOULD be done with enough force to cause discomfort. While getting a specialized lymphatic massage can be helpful, the most important massage is down with the patient’s own hands. It is advised to massage until the neck is soft throughout. This can take anywhere from 6 weeks to 3+ months.
Chin Lipo Recovery Without Surgery
While alternatives to liposuction exist, the average patient would not get great results for the value. The most common is Kybella which is an injectable solution. This is repeated multiple times and the recovery involves more swelling, more bruising, more pain, and a longer duration. Worse yet it must be repeated.
