What is Chin Liposuction?
Chin Liposuction is a procedure in which patients’ under-chin and under jawline areas can be sculpted by removing fat. The procedure is best done awake with numbing medication. The entire surgery takes 30 minutes to 1 hour and recovery involves minimal pain but patients do experience some bruising and a good amount of swelling.

Chin Lipo Recovery
The overall recovery process is fairly easy. Patients will universally be required to wear a compression garment. There are various styles of fajas and in the end, the exact style will not make much of a difference. Your surgeon will also advise you a variable amount of time this garment will need to be worn. While there is no definitive amount of time that is best, I advise patients under 30 years old to wear it for one week and then patients over 35 to wear it for 2 weeks. It should be worn nonstop. Chin Lipo Wrap: What does it Do?
The purpose of the garment changes over time. Initially, the compression garment serves to stop any bleeding that could have been caused during the liposuction. After a few days that risk is minimized; however, the garment is important to reduce swelling and more importantly keep your skin from gliding around. After liposuction, the skin of the neck will be raw and be able to tighten and stick to the underlying layers from where the fat was removed. The last states of the compression garment are first to help remind you to not move your neck and secondarily to keep the skin as tightly adherent to the underlying layers as possible.
Chin Lipo Swelling: What to Know

While swelling is frustrating due to the fact that it inhibits you from seeing your final results, the worst part of it is that it inhibits the skin layer from best attaching to the deeper layers and creating the snatched and chiseled appearance. The faster this swelling goes away the faster the results are seen but also the tighter the skin can adhere to the underlying muscle.

How to Tips to Improve Chin Liposuction Swelling: Tips and Tricks
There are general things you can do to improve swelling after surgery then specific things for chin lipo. Some may seem obvious and others will simply seem obvious after you read them:
1.) Stay as upright as possible after surgery. Recover sitting upright and sleep at a 30-degree angle. Go for a walk even on the day after your surgery.
2.) Avoid salty foods. Oftentimes, soup is thought of as the ultimate comfort food but a can of Cambell’s soup is basically a swelling potion. Limit salt intake as much as possible for the first two weeks.
3.) Massage frequently and often. While many surgeons recommend professional lymphatic massages, it is advised that a patient’s own strength cannot be surpassed. The massages will be uncomfortable while the neck is tender; however repeated massages will be the cornerstone of improving blood flow. A lymphatic massage should only be thought of as icing on the cake not the main form of massage.
4.) Take arnica and bromelain. Both these herbal supplements have been proven to improve bruising and massage. Taking them 3 days preoperatively and then supplementing the first week of surgery can only help.
5.) When you follow up with your surgeon, if you have significant swelling, ask if a dilute steroid injection would benefit your swelling. While steroids have downsides, patients with severe swelling and scarring can benefit from steroid injections.
6.) BE PATIENT. On the first day, you will see minimal swelling and the results will look great. Take a photo and remember that because as long as you don’t gain weight the swelling will improve gradually until you see results even better than that first day.
