What is microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a cosmetic procedure that involves the use of a device with fine needles to create tiny, controlled injuries to the skin’s surface. These micro-injuries stimulate the body’s natural healing response, leading to increased collagen and elastin production. The result is improved skin texture, reduced wrinkles, and a more even tone. Microneedling is commonly used to address various skin concerns, including fine lines, wrinkles, scars, and enlarged pores. It is a minimally invasive procedure that provides many benefits.

What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a treatment that involves extracting a small amount of a patient’s blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets, and then injecting the PRP back into the body. Platelets contain growth factors that can stimulate tissue repair and regeneration. PRP is often injected into the skin to promote collagen production and improve skin texture. The growth factors in PRP can enhance healing and contribute to the overall improvement of the targeted area.

What are benefits of microneedling with PRP?

Choosing microneedling with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) combines the benefits of two effective treatments for enhanced skin rejuvenation. Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture, while PRP harnesses the growth factors from your own blood to promote healing and tissue regeneration. The combination of these two treatments amplifies the overall effectiveness, leading to improved skin tone, reduced fine lines, and enhanced skin elasticity. Microneedling with PRP is often chosen for its ability to address various skin concerns, including scars, wrinkles, and uneven texture, providing a comprehensive and natural approach to skin rejuvenation. Additionally, since PRP is derived from the patient’s own blood, there is minimal risk of adverse reactions. The synergistic effects of microneedling and PRP make this combination an attractive option for those seeking holistic and long-lasting improvements in skin health and appearance.

Does microneedling hurt?

Mild discomfort is expected during and after the procedure. Many patients describe the feeling as similar to a sunburn. Our office uses medical-grade lidocaine cream to ensure a virtually painless experience. The cream is applied 30 minutes before the treatment, minimizing any potential discomfort.

Microneedling with PRP cost

According to RealSelf, professional microneedling costs $737 for a single session. The truth is that the type of microneedling pen used, the quantity of treatments, the provider, and the city you are in can drastically change these prices. Prices are typically by the number of sessions, with the needed amount varying based on injector recommendation and individual needs. Nurse Sofia starts a single microneedling session at $650; however, the best results are seen after a series of three are done. Click here to see prices and packages.

What can I expect after the treatment?

Post-treatment, you might observe some mild sensitivity or redness, similar to a light sunburn, but be assured, any discomfort is fleeting. To expedite recovery and optimize results, we recommend keeping the PRP on your skin for 4-6 hours before washing your face. The next day, your skin may show some dryness—it’s a normal part of the recovery process. Expect a bit of peeling as your skin heals. Avoiding sun exposure post-treatment is essential for proper healing, as premature sun contact could lead to unwanted hyperpigmentation. Your journey to radiant skin is marked by care, ensuring a seamless recovery and the best possible outcomes.
